Many of the popular blogging platforms out there have features that allow you to add an RSS feed to the sidebar of your blog template. Wordpress and Blogger are two.

Another way to do it is to find a third-party widget that you can add to the sidebar which will receive the feed. Dapper.net offers an excellent tool for creating RSS feeds and then turning them into HTML widgets for blogs.

RSS feeds are like transmitting content from its original website to your doorstep (a feed reader). The point of using RSS is to aggregate content together in one place so that you don't have to go to dozens of different URLs to read headlines and updates from your favorite newspapers, blogs, websites, etc.

Use Google Reader, Bloglines or one of the other many feed readers out there to get all that content together in one place for your convenience.

However, if you click one of these links, you will most likely get a page full of code in your browser. To properly read the feed, you need an RSS reader. RSS Feeds are a fairly new format of XML that is intended to share information in a condensed format (such as a title, description and link to a new article). They are good for syndication. RSS readers are popping up all over the place. Some of the most popular can be found by simply doing a Google search for "RSS Readers". Google desktop provides a nice interface for feeds and they are easy to add and remove through your sidebar.

To use Google News RSS Feeds, find the orange RSS icon on any Google News article, search or page. It is usually going to be found near the bottom of the page. Click to subscribe to the feed, and enjoy the latest content from that page direct to your feed reader. You may need to copy and paste the given URL into your feed reader. There are many various feed readers you can use, all of which function by displaying summaries of the latest content of feeds you have subscribed to.

You can use the Google News RSS feed by inputting the URL of the RSS Feed into an RSS Reader application. Some popular RSS Reader software includes Feed Demon and News Leecher.
