If you need more info, I have a dealer's 1965 Buick chassis and body parts book (printed in May of 1965) that has many parts break down figures with all of the GM part numbers.

Take the front seats out. There are two screws in plain sight at the back of the center console. Take those out. At the very front of the center console (near the firewall) there is a panel on each side. It pops off. held in by clips. Take those off. When you remove those panels you will see a screw there. Remove that screw (one on each side). On the gear shifter, pull down on the chrome piece underneath the leather covered shifter. It just slides down. You will see a horseshoe clip holding the leather piece on. Remove it. the leather piece simply lifts off. the trim around the gear shifter is held in by clips. Lift it up. There is one wire to unplug. The storage pocket is held in by clips. Pull it directly forward. It will come out. there are two screws inside the opening where the storage pocket was. Remove those. Gently lift the console up a bit. There are two wiring harnesses to unplug. Unplug those. Then remove the center console.

In side the storage comparment, remove the bottom pad, you will see 2 bolts (take out the coin holder) remove the 2 bolts. You need to put your shifter in drive. There is a little clip on the shifter head that you take out (use a screwdriver and pry it out and remove clip).Try to pull up on shifter head, if it will not come off try and spray WD-40 in the cip holes then take a rubber hammer and hit the shifter head (in the up drection). You may have to hit it hard a few times. After the head is off, pull on the top of the console(there are 4 clips holding the top of the console on, ther are around the area where the 1 2 D N R P is at. You may need to rock back and forth when you are pulling up. After you get the top of the console off remove your light. Take out your ashtray. Remove all of the wire hook ups, now take out the front 2 bolts and slide out the console.

Remove two hex head screws from there with a socket wrench 3. The console box storage box will now wriggle a little if you need it for the next step. 4. Gently pull back on the wood grain part of the center console (pulling it back towards the back seat), it will snap out of its holders and you can twist it around as needed. 5. Remove the three electrical plugs going into the bottom of the woodgrain part of the console (snow traction button, Seat Heater buttons, and shift boosting button for faster starts- whatever it's called) 6. Unscrew shift knob 7. Remove woodgrain console center portion, set it aside 8. The gear shifter itself is in a plastic box. Now, gently pry open the top to that by lifting up on the two tabs on the drivers side. 9. Voila, you can see the bulb now - remove it. 10. Save the rubber green sleeve covering the bulb 11. Replace with sylvania 2127 or equivalent bulb (it's a common one - easy to find at any auto parts store) 12. Put the little rubber sleeve on the bulb before installing 13. Put it all back together.
