It is located under the center console lid. To change put the key forward, not starting the vehicle and slide the gear select in the lowest possible gear. This should be 1 on an auto, some older models equiped with 2.73 gear sets have consoles begining in 2. After the gear select is in the lowest setting, you will see a U shaped clip holding the T handle shifter. Use a flat blade screw driver and gently pry the clip out. probably down on the transmission where the cable attaches
go to the Pontiac dealership and see the parts man and he can help you out on that.
Press the brakes all the way in kinda like a pumping fashion about three times. I have a 2000 firebird and that's what I have to do.
on the drivers side nearest the console it is on a clip under the dash How to get at flasher what needs to be removed
No, they are different. They do use the same console shifter though. I know that's not what you wanted to hear. Sorry.
The 2000 Pontiac Firebird is equipped with a traction control switch on the shifting console. The traction control button can be pushed in and out to turn the system on in off.
It is bulb type as T5 socket.
try looking it up on the internet or see your Pontiac parts man and he might be able to help you with a pic.
If you have an automatic transmission. Then you do not have a shift indicator light.
The bulb is located to the rear(back near the #1) underneath the console plate. It is a smaller bulb like a #194. You do not have to remove the shift handle. Take out the ashtray, and carefully pry up along the edges of the plate. It is held in place by tabs that fit into the console. You'll be able to lift it high enough to see the wire to the bulb connected to the underneath of the gear indicator, twist the bulb housing and pull off, take old bulb out by pulling it straight out and replace. Assembling is the reverse of the above steps.
If you step on the brake and it will still not come out of park. Your brake interlock is probably bad. It is under the console and you can get it at advance auto for around 20 bucks.
