I assume you mean the variable speed control on the dash. Pull the stereo , you'll need a small torx head screw driver to remove one screw on the bottom of the old switch, slightly twist and remove. Switch wiring , insert new switch with a small twist, good luck installing the screw. ps. to remove the know on the switch, pry from the bottom, that releases the catch that holds the know onto the switch
have you checked the fuse if so then you will need to replace the resistor for the blower hig and low dettings have you checked the fuse do you have 12 volts to blower if so then you will need to replace the resistor for the blower replace the blower motor

I own a 1997 Ford Contour and there was a recall a few years ago on the heater blower and resistor. Check out the recalls on the car.
Heater blower resistor is what controls the low medium high speeds...
The blower motor speed resistor is burned out. You can replace only the resistor but the resistor probably burned out because the blower motor is going bad. If you want to fix it for good, replace both the blower motor and blower motor speed resistor.

this resistor is located next to the blower motor in the heater plenum. the coils sit in the air stream. remove the connector and the fasteners and pull the resistor block out.

first thing is check the fuse then the resistor bank before messing with motor
replace the blower motor resistor. it is located on the firewall near the heater hoses.
