Many religions have dietary restrictions--Hindus often don't eat meat; Jews and Muslims usually don't eat pork. Jews traditionally don't mix milk and meat in the same dish (no pepperoni Pizza!!). Avoiding meat usually removes religious restrictions of food. Some Vaishnavas (an Indian-based sect) also do not eat garlic, onions, mushrooms, or eggs.
Some religions have dietary restrictions. Here are a few examples although it is just a sample--
Judaism has kosher laws that forbid the eating of pork, non-fish seafoods, the mixing of meat and dairy products in the same meal; mammals with certain types of hoofs.
Islam has laws permitting foods classified as halal--pork and alcohol are fobidden.
Most Hindus are vegetarian and most do not eat cattle; cows are considered sacred.
Certain branches of Indian religions also do not eat eggs, fungi, or onionlike vegetables
This largely depends on which religion is being practiced. Some religions have food restrictions, while others don't. There are literally hundreds of religions with food considerations, so it would be too much to include here. However, common restrictions include certain meats (or all meats), certain vegetables (or classes of vegetables), and there are even a few religions that require certain foods.
Jewish people eat a Kosher diet. Muslim people eat a Halal diet. Jehovah's Witnesses don't eat anything that might still have blood in it. Catholics eat Fish and Potato on Good Friday.

Christians are not allowed to consume blood nor stuff that's sacrificed to other gods. Though most Christians don't even know and won't bother.

Religion belief does in fact affect food choice. Some people belief they shouldn't eat meat or dairy products because for many years they follow the same beliefs as their ancestors.
The main religion is Christianity (Roman Catholic and Protestant). The main effect on food is that many Roman Catholics do not eat meat on Fridays and some other days).
Religion and culture will play a charge part in the food that people eat ever day. Some people can't eat some foods because of their religion for example Muslim and Jews can't eat pork, Hindus don't eat beef and Buddhists are vegetarian

Almost every religion in the world is observed by someone somewhere in the US. If there are any food restrictions for a particular religion, the people that observe that religion observe the food restrictions for it. There is no one religion that would affect the food choices of the country as a whole.
