A menorah has 7. But if you want to celebrate Hanukkah, you need a hanukkiah. The hanukkiah has 8 candles which you are not allowed to use except to look at them. The 9th is separated from the rest and is used as the worker candle. It lights all other candles. You place from right to left but light from left to right. I hope my answer is helpful.

A Hanukkah menorah (also called a hanukkiah) has eight candles, with another as shamash - the "assistant candle" that is used to light the others.

The structure of the hanukkiah reflects this: The shamash is not in line with the others; it is either above the other eight, or off to the side.
two candles are lit the 1st night, and each night, and additional candle is added, ending with 9 candles on the 8th night.

A total of 44 candles are used.

The main answer is usually 8. If you are wondering why the main reason that it lasts for 8 days, It is because the people that the people who then Reconstructed the Temple or the Maccabees had an Oil Shortage that they thought wasn't enough to light for more than 1 day. But another Miracle happened, and It lasted for 8 Days.

I says AL generally Nine Candle Menorah

When asking the number of candles are on a menorah, the most widely recognized answer is nine. This is on the grounds that today, the menorah is regularly connected with Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of the seven-day fight against the Greek-Syrians in which the Jews recovered their Second Temple.

The menorah (candelabrum) in the Temple had seven oil lamps. Our Hanukkah-menorahs have eight oil lamps or candles plus one extra which is used to light the others. (Only the eight constitute the mitzva itself.)
Besides the above, many synagogues have an electric or candle menorah next to where the leader of the prayers stands. This menorah is not connected to Hanukkah. It will have five or seven lights and is used year-round.
