I own a 96, so I don't know how similar the engine compartment configuration is. But, if it is like mine, you just simply remove the lid and filter and there are a series of bolts that are easily accessible. Be sure to disconnect the intake from the throttle body to make it easier on yourself.

Remove the air filter housing cover. The air filter will lift out. Drop the new air filter into the housing and replace the cover.
When you're looking at the engine, it's all the way to the left near the front of the car. It's a black square cover. You have to open the five or so metal clips and then remove the wingnut to the left and you should be able to gently lift the plastic housing. The air filter is inside.
Close, but no cigar... It is UNDER the air filter. Remove the air filter box from your engine side wall. It is right underneath that.
You will find it under the air filter (easy to remove filter btw). AB
On the 2001 it is located on the right side under the wiper. Open hood, remove the windshield cowl and the air filter is there.
How is the plastic air horn attached to the air box? On checking the air filter I found plastic horn laying in the bottom of the air box.

To remove the air filter on the Fiesta MK6, first remove the bolts on the top of the air filter box. Then, pull upward to remove the rubber gasket around the box. Remove the screws at the rear of the box. Remove the filter and replace it.?æ
Open up the air box on the air intake. (The big black box.) Remove old filter, insert new. There are 2 clips that hold it in place. It is much eaisier if you remove the hose connected , it gives you more room.
