very very poorly

in America in the 1800's was probably the worst time for racism and the answer above, very very poorly, is correct. Nobody had the right to do anything if they were black and lived in America at that period of time. If a white person wanted a seat and there were no seats on a bus then a black person would have to give up there seat.

In 1620, the first African slaves were brought to the English colony of Jamestown. Blacks remained slavers for the next few hundred years. Only after three amendments were passed after the US Civil War did Afrfo-Americans begin to have the same rights as white Americans. Yet it took another one years after the Civil War to have almost 100% equality attained.
