An American (US) ViewGeorge Bush took an oath to defend the United States from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. He is doing his best to accomplish this despite the opposition from the liberal left politicians and their supporters in the press and Hollywood. Perhaps you should get your facts from someplace besides Doonesbury. A few of your points are easily refuted and I am not going to waste my time trying to prove a negative on the rest.
  • AWOL from the National Guard? Dan Rather and Andrew Heyward, president of CBS News retracted this story and issued an apology.
  • Record drop in Stock Market? Perhaps in dollars, but as a percentage of total value, not even close. And it has recovered. Record high of 12,100.
  • Record unemployment? The current unemployment rate is below the average from 1960 to 2000.
  • Record for most bankruptcies filed? Changes in the law making bankruptcy less attractive encouraged many to file before the new rules took effect. Nothing to do with Bush.
  • Executed a prisoner? No, he refused to grant a pardon to a convicted murderer.
  • All 50 states are bankrupt???? News to me that any have declared insolvency. Have any even defaulted on any bonds?
  • Refused United Nations election inspectors. Well, good for him!! Do you know what countries those inspectors would have represented? I dont know either, but I do remember that most, if not all, were notorious for fraud in their own elections.
  • Biggest annual deficit in history. Figures just released indicate that the deficit as a percent of GNP has declined.

Because there are many posters asking political questions and their country being divided regarding President Bush I did put this question on the board and I also answered it with truth!

This is an extremely complex situation and not easily answered. Some American people would have you believe that the general public is not smart enough to understand what is going on in their own country (bad mistake!) The American people are most certainly aware of what is going on and most aren't swallowing a lot of what President Bush is doing and they no longer believe in "America and Apple Pie" but still dedicated to their country. Here is some of President Bush's vast accomplishments to 2003:

Accomplishments as President (as if) 2003

  • attacked and took over two countries.
  • spent the U.S. surplus and bankrupted the Treasury.
  • shattered the record for biggest annual deficit in history.
  • set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period.
  • set all-time record for biggest drop in the history of the stock market.
  • the first president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.
  • the first president in US history to enter office with a criminal record.
  • first year in office he set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history.
  • After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, he presided over the worst security failure in US history.
  • set the record for most campaign fundraising trips by any president in US history.
  • first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.
  • cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any other president in US history.
  • set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period.
  • appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any president in US history.
  • set the record for the fewest press conferences of any president since the advent of TV.
  • signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any other president in US history.
  • presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed.
  • presided over the highest gasoline prices in US history and refused to use the national reserves as past presidents have.
  • cut health care benefits for war veterans.
  • set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously take to the streets to protest him (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind.
  • dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history.
  • made the most secretive and unaccountable presidency of any in US history.
  • Members of his cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (The 'poorest' multimillionaire, Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her).
  • the first president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go bankrupt.
  • presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud in any market in any country in the history of the world.
  • first president in US history to order a US attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation, and did so against the will of the United Nations and the world community.
  • created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States.
  • set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any other president in US history.
  • the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the Human Rights Commission.
  • first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the Elections Monitoring Board.
  • withdrew from the International Criminal Court.
  • refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions.
  • the first president in US history to refuse United Nations election inspectors access during the 2002 US elections.
  • Is the all-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations.
  • spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US history.
  • the first president to be conveniently absence when US came under attack (and then lied, saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1)
  • first US president in history to have a majority of the people of Europe(71%)view his presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.
  • set the all-time record for number of administration appointees who violated US law by not selling their huge investments in corporations bidding for government contracts.
  • removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history.
  • In a little over two years he has created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided that the US has been since the civil war.
  • entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down, record unemployment being the most recent achievement..

RECORDS AND REFERENCES:

  • was AWOL from the National Guard.
  • refuse to take a drug test or even answer any questions about drug use.
  • All records of his tenure as governor of Texas are sealed and unavailable for public view.
  • All records of any SEC investigations into his insider trading or bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.
  • All minutes of meetings of any public corporation for which he has served on the board are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.
  • Any records or minutes from meetings President Bush or his VP attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

The above is true (not media influenced) and it's really up to an individual to look at both sides of this man and then decide if they feel he is doing the best for Americans. My question as a Canadian is "if he has nothing to hide regarding documents then why keep them sealed?" There are no excuses, but hiding the truth before he became Governor (would have hurt his chances of being elected as well as running for the Presidency).

One has to decide on their own steam and I don't always believe what the media says either. I look at this man and see one thing ... "The eyes are the windows of your soul" and I find when he makes his speeches he avoids the camera like the plague and if he should gaze into the camera his eyes are blank! Without his cue cards he has nothing much to say! Canadians have their own scandals in government as well, but we're not so easily persuaded with "bad media" as an excuse and we want answers. Americans have the right to expect this as well!

Believe in him or don't!

To the poster below. I have no idea where you get your info from, but I did the research and don' believe all stats that come down the pike. Don't blame the messenger ... I didn't write the truth!

Copyrighted MaterialNow I know where Marcy got her facts. Perhaps we should take away a few of her trust points since she copied her list verbatim from George W. Bushs resume at PoliticalHumor.com instead of Doonesbury cartoons. This resume contains every charge that has ever been made against the President by the left. Some are undoubtedly true, but most are fantasy. Marcy DIDN'T do the research. The original author is Kelley Kramer and you will find her postings in places like therealihatebushfanclub. The last statement below may have been a Freudian slip, but it is correct - Marcy didn't write the truth.

What do you think research is? You can start with a website like that of which you mentioned and prove whether this person's statements are true and I DID DO THAT RESEARCH ON OTHER WEBSITES. Like anyone with intelligence I want to be sure the statements are as close to the truth as one can get. Part of my working job is to do research! I can't afford to believe "trash websites". This board is not meant to be used as a battle ground, and it's OK to agree to disagree. I'm not bashing the American people, but all the world has a right to their opinion of the President because the U.S. was the largest leader in the world and thus, all eyes are upon them. If you did your research correctly you would find that this is the truth and it has never been once disputed. I don't go onto "trashy" websites. I did see that website you mentioned (researched each detail), and since I proved it to be true I did put these points down . It is true that Americans are divided re President Bush and if you kept up with politics he's losing a lot of voters to this day. To believe or disbelieve in President Bush is a Westerner's Constitutional Right and I left my last post as such. I simply gave food for thought. That gives you the right to believe in him and other Americans or Canadians not to believe in him. You're simply out for personal vengeance on this board, and if you want to make a point then YOU back it up! Where's your research????

Telling me I went on a "trash" website to get this information (I did pick subjects from this website) but investigated it further and it is a fact that these statements have never been proven wrong and that those documents re President Bush are sealed! If you follow President Bush's actions then you can plainly see with your own eyes what he has done to the country. You conveniently left out Health Care (extremely poor are suffering and some basically over-looked) not to mention taking away Health Benefits from war vets (what are these poor soldiers fighting for YOUR country going to come home too now!) and the fact he was the first President to be egotistical enough to go against the United Nations! We are all suppose to work together to try and keep this world a more peaceful place.

If you research on unemployment the stats speak volumes! If you listened harder, Dan Rather and Andrew Heyward had no option but to retract their statement because of CBS Management! Mr. Rather and Mr. Heyward did so to keep their jobs, but they searched for the truth, got it, and still believe in their search for the truth. Dan Rather has been an excellent and trusted reporter of news for many years. If you also watched 60 minutes you would have gotten more on the low-down regarding this. Your own President put his country into bankruptcy so again I don't know where you are getting your information from. It is common knowledge that the U.S. Government is borrowing millions off Canada and not even President Bush is disputing this one.

You have said absolutely nothing to prove my statements are wrong!

Trash Website? You're the one who called it that, not me, and you're the one who agrees with it. If you did the research, why did your list come up in exactly the same order, with exactly the same wording in most of the points? Please direct me to a website that supports your claim that all 50 states have gone bankrupt with actual economic figures. I have searched and I find the statement that "at least 48 states are bankrupt" was made by Lyndon La Rouche on January 19, 2004, at the Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the Talladega County (Alabama) Democratic Conference. He repeated this statement at a press conference on March 29. He offered not a shred of evidence. We must just take his word for it. All other references to states going bankrupt are found in various versions of the tripe you have so seriously researched. You have said absolutely nothing to prove your statements are right.

Is President Bush is trying to take our Democracy away?

I don't think Bush is trying to take our democracy away, he's trying the best he can to keep our country safe. HE has been put in a very difficult situation and these aren't just his decisions, they have to be supported by Congress in order to become laws so obviously other people feel the same way he does. Please give Bush some credit he's doing the best he can. And if you don't like the way he's running things why don't you stand up and take action! This question can only be answered by personal opinion. Factually, they both had their ups and downs, like any president, and tried their best to address the problems at hands. A better question would be "which bush has better problem solving skills?" in which I would answer H.W. Bush
