On your 1997 passat the passenger door doesn't open any suggestions your drivers door was the same way but was able to open from the inside so you could fix the outside handle?

The lock mechanism is cable operated but the exterior door handle does not directly pull the cable which attaches to the lock mechanism. As far as I can tell this "pulling" mechanism is rather like that of a clutch/automatic pencil. When you pull the handle you initiate a two stage operation. First the handle clamps on the cable and then it begins to pull it. VW probably invented this to make the car more difficult to break into; sadly, however, it does not last as long as latches on most other cars (all the door handles on my '92 Lexus still work). I managed to make a linkage out of wire to couple the door pull directly to the lock. This makeshift repair has lasted for about 4 months so it may be a permanent fix. It is this sort of inadequate design that will make me choose Japanese again next time. Part 2 Problems with the locks can also be caused by the locking logic/software but you need the VaGcom to diagnose/reset a problem of this type. depends on the state, in Missouri you have to have your learning permit atleast 6 months before your intermediate drivers licence no matter what age you are, then after you turn 18 you can get your full licence which doesnt restrict you from driving between 1-5 am or more than one un-related passenger under the age of 18.

On a permit, you can drive with any licensed driver who is at least 21 years old. That person must be in the front passenger seat. There are other restrictions as well, like the hours you can drive, etc. which vary by state and will be in your driver manual.
