i can answer this question with one word...
allot.
Answeryou could have bent some valves but you really don't now until you open it upIt really just depends... More than likely you bent most/all of the valves, and any valves that did bend will more than likely tear the valve guides up getting them out, also you more than likely will have to replace the valve stem seals. Not that big of a job, I had all of my exhaust valves burned and had to replace them in my eclipse spyder and I was able to do it all my self, and lap the valves in. The tricky part is putting the timing belt back on and bolting the engine head back on and setting the timing.
i HAVE A 98 AND THE BELT BROKE TWICE AND DID NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. The first time I was on freeway doing 75 and it broke. I have a '97 Contour and had no damage to the engine when my timing belt broke. Make sure you check your pulleys to ensure that the bearings are good. Mine were not and had to replace them.
If the timing belt breaks on any engine the damage to the engine is usually very bad.
Hopefully nothing. Put a new belt on and try it.
yes!!!! if your timing belt is cracked or split, you should get it in asap! if your timing belt has broken the damage done all depends on what happened to break it/what were you doing when it broke? if you were driving when it happened ( not stopped) there will be extensive damage done if your car was on but you were stopped not as much damage.
If you think your Timing Belt broke DO NOT try to crank your car, if you continue to crank you car with a severed timing belt you will cause more damage. The only way you can tell for sure if the timing belt broke is to remove the upper timing cover and inspect the belt. If you see a naked cam sprocket your timing belt has broken and you will most likely need a top end engine rebuild.
It has a timing belt. Replace at 60,000 miles. Warning: This is an interference engine. If the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur.
Only if the valves come in contact with the pistons,I would replace the belt and check the compression in the cylinders,The engine will miss if there is a bent valve.I have had to replace the timing belt on my wifes car a couple of times with no engine damage after it broke.
No-
If the engine runs at all, the timing belt is not "broke."
Maybe the timing belt broke.
It's possible. There are only 2 ways to find out: 1. disassemble the engine and inspect for damage. 2. Put a new timing belt on and see if you have good compression across all cylinders. If you do, you probably didn't cause damage when the timing belt broke. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Put on the timing belt. The car will run fine or really poorly. It will be obvious if you have any bent or stuck valves. Y-THINK-Y
It has a timing belt and it MUST be changed every 105,000 miles. This is an interference engine and as such if the belt breaks there will be serious engine damage. Also replace the water pump when you replace the belt as it is driven by the cam belt.
