He was a huge fan of Buddy Holly. I read that, in his younger days, George got to meet him and Paul was sooo jealous. And then not long after, Buddy Holly died. Now Paul owns all the rights to his songs and collections I believe.
I am pretty sure he has done so for many arists. Not only him, but The Beatles all together have influenced many popular groups to this day, and have for more then 40 years. For example, Pink Floyd, Radio Head, Nirvana, The Beach Boys, Coldplay, Green Day, My Bloody Valentine, My Chemical Romance, U2, The Rolling Stones, and The Police.
Clearly yes, Pink Floyd, Bonzo Dog Band, the Beach Boys all had clear influence, most bands of the 1960s and early 1970s show some influence. The punk bands of the late 1970s had a negative influence in the sense that they set out to avoid being like the Beatles.
That's a very difficult question to answer without actually knowing from the bands themselves, but it's fair to say that the band Oasis gets much of it's inspiration from the Beatles and therefore Paul McCartney. But in my opinion many of the alternative and generic rock bands of the last twenty years will probably credit Paul McCartney as one of their major influences.

Paul McCartney because he has been around more longer and because that was the type of music everyone listed to back then. Now everyone listens to many different types of music , like dubstep and hip-hop which have nothing to do with Adele.
