I too was interested in such an answer (Groucho Marx refers to a painting of such title being tatooed on 'Lydia the tattoed Lady' in his song of that name). An entry on Google states that William McTaggart RSA (presumably Member of Royal Scottish Academy) painted a picture with that title based upon the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Hope this helps.
it"s a tragic poem,. not a painting. some morbid Cartoons may have been done on the theme.
Ships in a storm is a subject which has attracted many painters over the years. One famous WA William Turner, British, 1775-1851.

Wreck of the Hesperus comes from Henry Wadsworth Longfellows poem of the same name published in the 1840's. An account of a shipwreck off the coast of New England in which all crew was lost. I look like " the wreck of the Hespers" is a modification meaning, I look devestated.
You can see an image of the painting at the link below.
I think that a painting gives a impression of power because it cost's alot of money to get your painting done and how your posture is and they way you look can tell people is your powerful or not.For example Queen Anne's painting look gentle and soft and not powerful but Queen Elizabeth 1st painting look powerful. Sometimes its also about what they wear in the painting because for like Queen Elizabeth in her paintings she wears alot of jewellery (real gold) that also make her look powerful :)
Artistic Effets
No, he did not. Look at a Modigliani painting! Look at a Monet painting! You can see they are not similar.
