Your pulse is the number of times your heart beats in a minute. As you start moving quicker, or exercising, or get excited, the heart beats quicker to send more blood to the brain (for better thinking), to the muscles (for better strength), through your lungs (to get more oxygen into the blood). As you relax, the heart begins to beat slower and returns to its normal rate.
