In some ways a belated period is much like being 6 or more months pregnant and can cause Back pain. We are literally bloated inside until we start our periods. Stress is a big factor in late periods, so I wouldn't worry about it right now. If you are 38 or over have a check-up by your doctor as you could be going into peri menopause. If you are on the Birth Control pill this could be a factor as well. Nerves are all over your body, so when you are bloated inside the pressure will usually cause cramping (nerves) in the upper legs. When you go for your next internal/physical tell the doctor about this and he can explain it much better than I can. Don't worry sounds like you are just fine. Marcy

Menstrual cramps are caused by certain hormones causing the muscles of the uterus to contract in order to push out menstrual flow. As well as the fact pain from menstrual cramps can radiate, those hormones can effect muscles elsewhere in your body too. Menstrual cramps are common but not a normal part of menstruation, so look into preventing them.
