Zaire borders nine countries
History Lesson first, Zaire was renamed the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1997.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo borders the Central African Republic, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Brundi, Zambia, Angola, the Republic of the Congo, and is separated from Tanzania by Lake Tanganyika.
There are many African countries south of Rwanda, but the closest one to the south is Burundi, followed by Tanzania.
