Catholicism at one time dominated almost all of Europe. From Italy, Spain, Hapsburg Empire, England and etc. It was not till the Protestant revolt when areas such as the Germanic states seceded from the Catholic faith, as well as England, Switzerland, Netherlands, etc. Italy, Spain and many South American nations still practice Catholicism devotedly and in large numbers, as well as the United States, and Philippines, and many African nations have a growing Catholic population. Most countries in South and Central America are largely Catholic with Brazil having the largest Catholic population in the world. Catholicism is found in all nations currently, although not overtly in the Muslim states. Please see the link below for a breakdown.

There are practicing Catholics on all continents and in almost all countries. There is no complete data because in some countries people could face severe consequences for admitting they are Christians.

The link gives data for most countries of the world, but it only relates to the number of people who are identifed as Catholics. Whether or not a person practices the religion is open to a very wide interpretation and probably not measurable from country to country.

Actually, there are many countries whose population is mainly Catholic:

1. Almost all countries in Latin America.

2. Italy.

3. Spain;

4. Puerto Rico; etc.

Catholic Answer It's just Catholic, not Roman Catholic. Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the official Catholic Church.

According to Wikipedia in June 2014, the following countries have populations which self-report as 50% or over Catholic:
