Henry the eighth was a Catholic but had changed this since he wasn't allowed to divorce from his wife and had said he was to change his religion to a Protestant and was going to build a new church. Since he had made this change the whole of England suddenly had to become a protestant and leave being a Catholic.

he formed the Anglican church

Anglican Catholic Answer!.

Well? The above is an opinion, but it isn't one shared by history is it?

Henry didn't at any time, as I can see, change his religion! He was baptised a Catholic and remained one all his life! The thing was he was a member of the Church in England, a Catholic Communion that had its roots very clearly planted in the Upper Room in Jerusalem. [Acts.]

It was brought to Britain , according to S. Dorotheus of Tyre, a Catholic Archbishop, very soon after the Crucifixion of Jesus! S. Aristobulos, a friend of S.Paul was credited with being the first Bishop of the British Church.

What Henry did, was to take a stand on a principal that had been fought over for the past thousand years. What was the source of the Bishop of Rome's authority? Where was the source?

It wasn't in Revelation or Scripture, neither was it mentioned in Holy tradition!

In 1054, there had been a major rift , on the subject, between Rome and the Orthodox, what Henry did was to take sides with the Orthodox. He pointed out to the Bishop of Rome, that according to the ancient canons of the Catholic Church, no bishop had the authority to interfere in another Bishop's see without permission!

This was the faith of the Catholic Church! Henry and the Anglican Church simply stood on the principles of Christ and the Apostles! he remained Catholic!

The papacy on their part, called a Robber Council at Trent and formed themselves in to a new catholic sect. [The Holy Roman Church! 1546.]
