The Roman's maintained consistency in their art and architecture to exhibit the wealth of their city to visitors and to the citizens alike. It showed people how lucky they were to be living in such a rich and bountiful city. When structures were built in other cities conquered by the Roman Empire, the Romans flaunted their wealth on their monuments to other citizens to show how rich the Romans were, and that they were better than the other cities. The wealth of the empire also allowed the Romans to be able to invent new materials and new structures, such as the invention of concrete and different types of structures. Before the invention of concrete, marble was the main building material for the Romans. They used it of most of their structures. This showed the how wealthy the Roman Empire was, as they would have to excavate the marble from places like Carrara - (of which Carrara Marble comes from, which is used on Trajan's Column). This was pricey and so the marble was worth a lot. It was a rich material of which was used for its strength and its beauty. To get the most out of the marble, after it was excavated it would also have to be refined and polished to look the best it could, which would have taken time and money as well. Because of the worth of it, it was only to be used on the most important of things. However, the Roman's thought most of their structures were important enough to invest on using marble on.
Stunning work - much of which still stands.
The Pantheon - for centuries the largest domed building in the world.
The Colissuem - a great example of the "Roman arch" which was used in many structures - bridges as well as buildings.
Viaducts - huge undertakings to transport water from a mountain source to provide drinking water to towns and cities which had no springs/wells.
architecture was important to ancient Romans because they liked being unique to every thing they do.
The Ancient Greek Society originally used the Doric system of architecture. Original Doric columns stood directly on flat pavement and did not have a base. The Doric system was later adopted by the Romans.
the Romans added to their own talents and tastes to what they learned from cultures.
I believe it was because the Greeks did not use arches, thus they need more columns to support the roof structure.
The Roman and Greek culture used domes mostly. I had this question too. Itʻs between Roman and Greek and the Romans used it a lot more frequently. Hope I helped :D
This is true. Although the Romans were also known for architecture, sculpture, paintings, and mosaics, ceramics were their major triumph.Vases, urns, and jars were huge accomplishments. They were not only known for their design and techniques, but also for the reliefs that were painted on them. Ceramic painting was a very intricate art form, up into the beginning of the Hellenistic period.
The Temple which is dedicated to all gods and godesses of the Ancient World and was based in Roma is called the Pantheon, Since the 7th century AD/ CE it has been converted to a Christian Temple.

The most significant contribution of the Romans to architecture had to be the dome. They were able to do this by the judicious use of concrete. The most significant contribution of the Romans to architecture had to be the dome. Yes, the Romans made many beautiful temples to their various gods. these temples were not just in the city of Rome but all over the empire especially in the mid east.
