In most cases it doesn't represent anything -at least nothing spiritual- other than perhaps what colors were available and to which cost. But it is possible that the sami "kofte" -which could be viewed as a bunad- has colors with meaning.

Also, the different colours may tell you from where the bunad is. The most places have their own bunad.

It is a traditional dress that were used for festive occations. Now a days the bunad is used mostly at 17. may. The bunads will have different colors and pattern depending on which part of the country you come from.

The three colours on the Norwegian Flag are red, white and blue, like many other flags. These colours all represent times of struggle in Norway's history.

Firstly, the Red represents bloodshed. In 1856, there was a huge civil war which tore the economy into pieces due to a lack of trust between parties.

Secondly, the white represents the time when Norway was plagued with disease. The white represents the time after this when they became 'pure'.

Thirdly, the blue represents the whaling times of Norway, before it was outlawed in 1967
