Starter solenoid defective. if you have replaced your siloniode and you still have the same problem just trun the key on ON then take a screwdriver and touch the two terminals togather quikly and it should work great after. Starter solenoid hooked up reversed or poor ground, low battery or corroded connections @ battery It has been my experience that a faulty solenoid or relay will only click once when you try to start the vehicle. A rapid clicking noise would indicate a low battery, poor ground, or corroded connections as stated above.
That sounds like your battery needs charging. My not have enough starting amps to fully start the car yet not completely dead. (Happened to me last night). it also is happening to me right now a mechanic told me that the battery i bought did not have enough cold crank amps and didnt have enough power to fully start my car. i replaced everything i could before calling him and had to return a brand new starter, for it wasnt the problem.
It means your battery is almost completely dead and there isn't enough juice in it to ingage the solinoids bendix gear (in the starter)into the flywheel and turn the engine over. The clicking is the sound of the gear trying to move into the flywheel and running out of power to continue so it starts over and tries to ingage the gear again over and over that is the clicking. Jump start the vehicle and let the battery charge before turning it off. If its not charging while runnin check connections to the battery terminals, the battery itself could be bad or the alternator(just about any auto parts store can check these things right in their parking lot).
If you are driving a BMW, especially if it's an older one, check your engine to chasis grounds. This is a common problem with these cars.
Weak Battery?
Loose or corroded battery cables?
Weak starter solenoid?
Bad starter? Weak Battery?

Bad starter?
clicking car It's one of two things. Need a naw starter, or dead battery.
Battery is dead, wires are loose or corroded, or starter is defective.
The clicking noise you can hear is the starter solenoid clicking into place. If the starter motor does not turn the engine immediately, it is probably the best place to look. it sounds like the starter motor is faulty.
If the 1999 Suburban noise is a sort of loud banging noise, the problem could be that the engine have jumped time. Jumping time would cause the noise and jerking in the engine.
Anti-rattle clips not installed properly
It sounds like a CV axle shaft has come loose from the transaxle. This is usually caused by an improperly installed axle shaft of missing or damaged snap-ring type retainer.
drive belts tensioner/under chassis
Why is your 1993 Altima Nissan making a clicking noise but does not start?
A clicking noise in the engine of a 91 Ranger could indicate a problem with the valves. A valve lifter in the engine may be worn or stuck.
Cicadas
im not sure but in my 2000 Plymouth neon my alternator has been making squeeking noises in the morning when its cold and just recently its been making a clicking noise as the engine is ruvving down or sometime ruvving up, not sure if that has to do with the alternator
A bad resistor can cause your BCM to make a clicking sound. The clicking noise can be caused by the relays and replacing the BCM will fix the problem.
I have the same car with the same clicking noise right after you start the engine. The noise stops shortly after starting. There was a recall from Chrysler for this problem. Contact your local dealer regarding this matter.
If the Chrysler is only making a clicking noise and will not start, check the starter. Also check the alternator, and the battery. The starter solenoid is more than likely the reason the car is clicking and not starting.
The Battery is shot and you need to replace it.
Possibly the lifters?!?
It is out of balance..Replace IT!
mine is doin it too i think its the top of the engine and im gonna try checking valves first then going for the lifters
Where is the clicking coming from? Within the engine compartment or inside the car?
