Being seen as 'leader' is culture dependent, or cultural relativist. Also it is time dependent.
Someone like Braveheart was in own scottisch surroundings seen as heroic and honest leader, but by the English seen as treacherous terrorist. After paradigm shift you might change from a hunted 'terrorist' (in some paradigm) into a beloved leader (Nelson Mandela).
