He was a sad person!!
Edgar Allan Poe's works often dealt with themes of death, loss, and the macabre, which may have contributed to his reputation for sadness. Additionally, Poe endured significant personal hardships, including the deaths of his loved ones and struggles with mental health issues, which likely influenced the melancholic tone of his writing.
Edgar Allan Poe wrote many short stories. Some of them include: The Fall of the House of Usher, Ligeia, Morella, The Masque of the Red Death, The Cask of Amontillado, and Berenice. You can actually read many of his stories online. Check the link below for Morella.
Edgar Allan Poe is a famous writer for many stories and poems as well. His writings, from my point of view are rather dark, mysterious, and deep in detail. A lot of his writings aren't happy in anyway, but they are definitely impressive. You might want to Google his name or check wikepedia for more information on Mr. Poe because he does not write just poems and stories, but he was also the very first person to start the genre of detective mysteries.
i think so
Poe was not very often depressed when he wrote his poems. Most of Poe's poem were tributes to women he knew in his life. Very few poems (and even very few short stories) were of the Gothic Horror like The Raven.
The idea that Poe was greatly affected by the early death of his young wife is also not very true. She died in 1847. Poe died in 1849. The greater part of his work had already been completed by the time she died. Thus her death did not have an influence on the greater part of h.s work
because most people think he suffed from depression
yes, indeed.
He was a sad person!!
There were rumors that Edgar Allan Poe's birth father was not his legal father, and that his biological father was actually a different individual. However, there is no concrete evidence to support these claims.
Poe's birth name was Edgar Poe. After Poe's parents died in late 1811 leaving him an orphan just before his third birthday, his foster parents John and Frances Allan of Richmond, Virginia, had Poe baptized as Edgar Allan Poe, thereby giving Poe their last name as his middle name. Poe was never formally adopted by the Allans, and the name Allan was never his legal name, middle or otherwise. Since this was only a baptismal name, Poe did not have to use it, but he did so to honor his foster parents.
I think Edgar Allan Poe had tuberculosis because his closet family and friends died from it. So if he wasn't giving it to them then he had to have at least been affected by it because he was around it.
The Edgar Allan Poe award is awarded by the Mystery Writers of America for best mystery fiction, non-fiction, television, film, and theatre published or produced in the previous year. Edgar Allan Poe is credited with inventing the Detective story so he is an appropriate person to name the award after.
Poe left the University of Virginia in December 1826. He states than Mr. Allan did not sent him enough money. Mr. Allan had no obligation to pay Poe's debts so this is a excuse. To me, Edgar Allan Poe being a brilliant writer, found that studies those days did not have anything for him to learn. I assume his assumption was right.

He was Poe's foster father. Hence his middle name (Allan). He didn't wan't to change his last name in respect of his dead parents, so he moved it to his middle name. The Allans never adopted Poe, so he did not have to accept Allan as a last name either.
Edgar Allan Poe went to see the president for a job. He claimed he was a part of the Whig Party so he could work at Philadelphia's Custom House.
Edgar Allan Poe was born Edgar Poe on January 19, 1809. After being abandoned by his father and orphaned by his mother, he was taken in by John and Frances Allan, who became his foster parents. They added the middle name "Allan" to his name. So, he did not formally change his name; it was given to him by his foster family.
Edgar Allan Poe's dad abandoned his family when Poe was less than two years old, and no one really knows how Poe's dad died after he left them. He was known to struggle with alcoholism, and his acting troupe left him in Norfolk, Virginia shortly before he died because of an unknown debilitating illness.
