During Franklin D. Roosevelt's first 100 days of the New Deal, he sought to reform banking and business practices to restore employment and stimulate economic growth. A "national bank holiday" involved the nationwide closing of banks to ensure proper management and allow for the average citizen to regain trust in the banking system. Laws were passed and regulatory practices were encouraged with the FDIC and SEC. The Public Works Administration and Federal Emergency Relief Act served to provide training and jobs for Americans who were left unemployed.
