The Missouri Compromise was an attempt to maintain the balance of power between the North and South when Missouri petitioned for statehood. The Compromise allowed Missouri, a slave state, and Maine, a free state, in together thereby maintaining equality between the two sides. However, the Compromise went on to prohibit slavery in the rest of the Louisiana Purchase that was north of latitude 36-30N.
The Missouri Compromise that was passed in 1820 was between the pro slavery and anti slavery factions in the United States Congress.

The Missouri compromise had something to do with allowing Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state and everything south of the Louisiana purchase was slave states and north of the Missouri compromise line which was 30 degrees 30 minuets was free states except for Missouri itself. The compromise of 1850 had 5 parts

  1. That California enter the union as a free state
  2. Upholds popular sovereignty in New Mexico and Utah
  3. Settles border dispute between Texas and New Mexico
  4. Passes Fugitive slave act = fugitive slave LAW
  5. and bans slave trade in Washington D.C the nations capitol
