Tribes sold their own members and others sold the people they won a war against in Africa. Most had a long walk to the ships that would transport them to parts of the world where they would be sold. Roughly 3 million slaves were shipped during the late 1600's; a quarter million died on the voyage. Once landed, it was mostly luck as to what kind of owner and work expected that each person got. Certainly, it took stamina and strength to endure the trip much less work the plantations in the Americas.
slave trade
they were poor and rubbish
We'll never know, because there has ALWAYS been a slave trade in Africa, even today.
Slave trade ships were known to have foul odors due to overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, and the presence of human waste, sickness, and death. The smell would have been a combination of sweat, vomit, feces, urine, and the overall stench of suffering and despair.
The slave trade had massive influence over African Politics. West and East Africa were depopulated during the slave trade. This weakened native's states like the Oyo Empire and strengthened other empires like Ashanti.
Commerce and slave trade compromise
Slave families were split up and sold as part of the domestic slave trade.
British opponents of the slave trade were Americans and French because the Americans did not like slaves and they did not want there to be slaves in British territories
the slave trade was abolished in 1807.
After the trans-Atlantic slave trade was declared illegal and later eliminated, it was replaced by legitimate trade (non-slave trade).
