The biggest thing that changed German life was the wall, before the wall was built East and West Germans were able to visit each other's countries. After the wall was built, they were cut off from each other. The airlift affected Germans in a positive way because they were isolated from each other and needed supplies. While Stalin supported the East, the US supported the West via the airlift.

Berlin was the capital of Germany and Hitlers headquarters so it wasn't touched until the end of the war and when Germany was invaded by the Allies 8 years later. Life went on pretty much that it always had for the most part of the war. There are colored photos of the city online that show a vibrant active city.
