During the battles of lexington and concord the British sent soldiers to the colonies to capture the ammunition and guns that the colonists were stock piling. A shot was heard from somewhere unknown, and the colonists and british started firing rapidly at eachother.

The battles were two major battles on the same day. Lexington happened first on the morning April 19, 1775 when the British patrol marched into the town and met 77 colonial men waiting for them. Shots were fired, several were wounded and killed. The troops set fire to some of the houses and then marched on to Concord. At Concord they were met at the Concord Bridge where a battle took place. By this time all of the area had heard of the two battles and came to fire shots at the patrols as they marched the 20 miles back to Boston. The war was on.

The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the Revolutionary War. They occurred on the same day, April 19, 1775.

British troops were sent from Boston to confiscate colonial armaments known to be present in Concord, 16 to 20 miles to the west of Boston. Riders including Paul Revere had alerted the colonial militias (Minutemen) throughout the area. During the early morning in Lexington, the British fired on a small group of armed colonials, who were forced to disperse. But as the British troops searched Concord, they were confronted by the militia, and routed in a brief battle. The British regulars retreated but were rescued by a larger relief force. The troops were harried all the way back to Boston by the growing colonial forces. The tension between the colonists and England had finally erupted into open warfare, and a year-long siege began around the city of Boston, which was abandoned

by the British forces on March 17, 1776.

Erupting on April the 19th of 1775, these battles witnessed a quick (and indecisive) victory by British forces in Lexington early in the day followed by a decisive victory by American militia at Concord later that same day.
