Texas and Florida were mostly spared the effects of the Civil War because it ended before Union armies occupied them, but the other Southern states were completely ravaged. Many plantations had been burned, the economy was destroyed, Confederate money was worthless, and people were in starvation. In short, the South was beaten.

the south had lost because the north had more of an advantage because they had more recourses and had more troops aswell.
