There are a few, the British Empire once covered a quarter of the world's surface. The English empire was significantly smaller and really amounted to illegitimate piracy in the Carribean to disrupt Spanish designs.
The British Empire was formerly so vast that, "The sun never sets on the British Empire," and it was true. Here is a list of some of the places that were once under British rule.

The British Empire came about largely by accident. Private indiduals, private companies setting out to develope trade routes ended up running large parts of Africa, North America, India, Australia and New Zealand, and countless islands. Wars with Spain and France, and later with Germany made the Goverments of the day react. Private companies got into trouble (India!) and the Goverments had to bail them out. End result, an empire, based on trade, and a handful of administrators and local levies. The empire was not really held by force of arms or numbers, but largely by local adminstrators and a small governing body. Once parts of the Empire no longer wished to be a part of it, there was little chance or will to force them to remain. The Commonwealth was the result.
It included the British Isles, British West Indies, Canada, British Guiana; British West Africa, British East Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand

The French and Indian War began because of the American colonists and the French colonists both wanting to move into the area west of the Appalachian Mtns. Since the colonists wanted to farm there and the French wanted to fur trap, they could not coexist in the same area. So pretty much, the French and their Native American allies fought against Britain, the American colonists, and their Native American allies.
The French felt that they had a superior claim to the lands of the Ohio Valley, especially the territories that are now part of western Pennsylvania. The French leaders in Quebec sent military parties to discourage the Indians from trading with the British in the region. Finally, in 1753, the French built forts in the area and were challenged by the British colonial militia under George Washington. Hostilities erupted on July 3, 1754, after a massacre of some French by Indians they had previously attacked. Washington was forced to surrender and withdraw, and soon both sides were sending reinforcements to fight in Pennsylvania and ultimately in Canada. Indian tribes were allied with both sides, with the French supported by those whose land was imperiled by the British expansion into the interior.By war's end in 1763, the French lost Canada and the majority of their New World empire to the British, but they would get their revenge by aiding the colonials in the Revolutionary War, only fifteen years later.they were fighting over land
The Illini Indian tribes were in southern Illinois. The French settlers named the area after the tribe that welcomed them.
In the French and Indian War, the French lost all of their North American lands that were east of the Mississippi River. On February 10, 1763, the signing of the Treaty of Paris was the end of the war..
There was a French and Indian war because the French and the Britain both wanted the area of Ohio Valley region.
The area of North America which the French had colonized.
The major causes of the French and Indian War include: 1.) Both Britain and France claiming ownership of the Ohio River Valley 2.) Britain didn't respect the Native Americans living in the area. 3.) The long standing rivalry between Great Britain and France.
The Ohio River Valley, which was ceded by the British (Quebec Act, 1774) to the French Canadians in British-controlled Canada.

The French and Indian war was actually a conflict between France and Britain. Both countries wanted to establish a stronger power in the 'New World', specifically in the area of the Ohio Territories. Native American Indians allied with the British in the conflict, which is how the name came to be.
The area between the Missouri river and the Mississippi
Britain gained all French territory in North America as a result of them winning the French and Indian War. However, the largest French territory, Louisiana, was ceded to Spain before the end of the war to prevent the British take over of the territory. So in reality, Spain and the UK were still battling for power in the Americas as France was only left with its territory of Haiti in the Caribbean. Spain had more land area than Britain but lost its power in the 1800s when all its territory became independent. Britain remains in the Americas even 'til today.
Antarctica, as it had not made its claim on the continent until 1908.
The Ohio River Valley was contested by France and Great Britain prior to the French and Indian War (or 7 Years War as it was known it Europe). This region west of the Appalacian Mountains offered great conditions for the trapping of beavers for pelts which had grown popular throughout Europe. In addition, the area also had lots of wildlife which made it desirable.
