Formal religions go back thousands of years in the Middle East. It is believed that worship of the Mother Goddess, or Mother Earth (Greek: Gaia) was the very first formal religion.

Animism is even older and was the first religion in the Middle East.

According to The Bible, the oldest religion on earth would be: -- direct 'worship/obedience/devotion' to Jehovah God, the Creator or mankind. This religion was not given a formal name. It didn't need one. When Adam was in the Garden of Eden he worshiped Jehovah God. When his wife Eve was created, Adam became a witness of Jehovah to Eve. He would have told Eve about his Creation and about Jehovah; and about Jehovah's requirements. That's all they needed.

Answer:

The oldest religion in the Bible has to be the "worship of Satan" ["...that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan..." - Rev.12:9].

Adam and Eve did not devote themselves to their Creator [who will accept no man's worship of any other god before Him]... but to the serpent in the Garden -- obeying his misdirecting and deceptive words and worshiping him.

The first people on earth "RAN AWAY AND HID" from God, following that [Gen.3:8].

The worship of the Dragon and his governments is the oldest religion in not only the Bible... but the world.

A:

We are most familiar with the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age religions of the Middle East, or more accurately, the "Near East". These include worship of the weather god, moon god, sun god, Ba'al and Yahweh, Aherah, Astarte and others. Although each city or region had its own regional gods and religious practices, they were all based essentially on the same theological concepts. Male gods were dominant and the most important gods were warlike.

However, these religions evolved from Early Bronze Age religions with many more gods and a greater role for goddesses, including Mother Earth, by whatever name different cultures knew her. There was a lesser role for warlike gods.

Long before the religions of the Early Bronze Age, there were animistic religions in the Near East. Their followers worshipped spirits in the natural environment, long before the concept of gods had taken hold. They evolved through shamanism, so that the most powerful spirits took on godlike forms, until shamans became priests and spirits gave way to gods.

Answer:

Based on analysis of the earliest settlement-levels and artifacts of peoples all over the earth, Professor Wilhelm Schmidt (Der Ursprung Der Gottesidee) has concluded that the earliest belief was a belief in one God, referred to by names such as Il and Sky-Father (Dyeus Pater). This, however, relatively quickly gave way to the ubiquitous idolatry which then flourished.
