These were 2 of the main hom eappliances in the 1970's.

Microwave: The microwave has been commercially available since the 1950's but it did become popular in Australian homes until the late 1970's, early 80's. Microwaves shaved time off food preparation and revolutionised cooking. Defrosting, heating and cooking could all be done by one machine in very little time and was exceedingly convenient. This convenient factor saw the rapid rise to frozen meals, as they could be served quickly and easily due to the microwave.

Dishwasher: The dishwasher has been in Australia since around the 1950's. Throughout the 60's they started to consider aesthetics and the bulky, commercial 50's dishwasher was replaced with a shiny, new colourful version. Australian's had access to these machines and began to display them in living rooms and not hide them away as done in the past, it was similar to a trophy. The dishwasher added to the convenience of cleaning. It took hours of washing times and made it easier for households to function without unnecessary hassles.

Most of the new appliances that women got were washing machines, vacuum cleaners, and cars. Washing machines, to get things done in half the time; Vacuum cleaners, because having carpets was very in in the 1950s; Also, the 1950s had a large baby boom and the need for household appliances was very large. There was starting to get a larger, newer design for the average car, so more family can fit. In the 1950s, most driveways had 2 different in it. One, for work, and one as the family car.
