Imperialism was about money, religious dominance, and power. People have an inherent want to spread their influence and when in charge of something as powerful as lets say England the ability influence the rest of your world to your liking and benefit is huge. Although Invading and taking over a country like we used to do is not looked upon nicely anymore we still go to war for the same reasons.
