The scientists knew that Mount Saint Helens was going to erupt because of the seismic activity around it. There has been frequent earthquakes under the mountain before it was going erupt. The earthquakes were because of the lava building up inside of the volcano and it started to inflate like a balloon and in May 18, 1980 that balloon exploded, by Nii Lomotey Engmann.Hello Mr. Alan G. This has got to do with radioactivity.
Certain natural components like Carbon (Spechial isotopes) emits radiation.
We know how long time it takes for the radiation to become half as powerfull.
We take a sample of old rock that is not exposed to the atmosphere and measure its radioactiv radiation. A lot of radiation mean that it has been newly formed. and little radiation mean very old.
Radioactive Kalium40 is a radioactive component that is a common compound of many newformed stones. As stones age, the Kalium turnes into Argon.
By carefully measuring the amount of argon versus kalium, one knowes the age of the stone.
smoke started to come out of Mt St Helens

Frequent Earthquakes were occurring on and within the volcano, small steam-based eruptions spouting from the summit, and the north face of the mountain was bulging.
There is no way of knowing. The timing of volcanic eruptions cannot be predicted accurately, even when a volcano is getting ready to erupt. Currently Mount St Helens is not showing any signs of imminent activity.
There are many volcanic mountain chains in the USA, so it stands to reason that there are many possible mountains that could erupt. Mt. Rainier shows signs of activity and Mt. St. Helens has erupted in the recent past and may again in Washington state. Mt. Shasta in California is another possibility. Mt. Kilauea and Mt. Mauna Loa in Hawaii erupt almost regularly.
No. Mount Rainier is not showing any signs of erupting soon.
Mount St. Helens and the surrounding area have long been renowned for their beauty, making it a nice place to live, especially if you wanted to be away from crowded cities. The volcano itself had not erupted in living memory, so very few people were worried until it started showing signs of activity.
Mount St. Helens has been emitting steam and building crater structures since its 1980 eruption, and could have another large eruption in the future. Scientists have been trying to accurately measure the magma pool beneath the mountain and the surrounding area of the Cascades. In September and October, 2004, vented magma began forming a lava dome, replacing part of the mountaintop blown off on May 18, 1980. This process continued for nearly 4 years until July, 2008.

As of August 2017 Mount St. Helens is not showing signs of activity. The last activity, consisting of the growth of lava domes, ended in 2008.

There were signs such as ash clouds and hot gas.

To the best of my knowledge the only thing that grows at the top of Mount Everest is the proliferation of signs and trash left by the climbers who reach the summit.
When dividing numbers that are different the answer will be negative.
I have a motor mount going bad. When I shift from park into drive sometimes I hear this THUMP and it is LOUD. That is tell-tale sign of the motor mount being bad. It is the engine shifting because there is no mount to hold it in place. It's really loud like WHUMP!!!! :-) As far as I know, this is not something u want to let go too long as it can be very dangerous should the other side of the mount break too.
In 1970 the United States made commercial whale hunting illegal, in 1980 Mount St. Helens erupts, and in 1990 President George H. W. Bush signs a treaty with the Soviet Union to end the development of chemical weapons. In the year 2000 the state of Vermont made same sex marriages legal.
