What would be the problem if the starter works then doesnt but cant find the bad part?

Follow the Positive cable back til you find a relay the ground for that relay, which is the body of the car, your problem is most likely there if not, get a new starter the selonoid my be starting to go out on it.

that test indicates that you need to replace the starter motor.if no clicking in this test , you would replace solenoid first. but clicking indicates solenoid works,so replace starter motor

It could be the battery. If not try tapping the starter with a hammer. Not hard enough to crack the housing but hard enough that it might unstick the starter from the flywheel. If this works you might want to change the starter. If not it would have to be the solenoid.

When you try to start engine is there any noise,such as clicking from area of starter?If you can hear a clicking , this usually indicates poor connections.To trouble shoot starter problem, the first thing i would do is determine if it is starter or solenoid.To do this ,you need a remote starter switch,connected to starter solenoid.Solenoid is located either on the starter,or on firewall in engine bay,depending on what vehicle you have. if you dont have a remote switch, you can short the solenoid terminals with a screw driver.When shorting, if the solenoid is good you will hear clicking.If you dont hear anything , replace the solenoid.If you hear clicking and starter doesnt work, pull the starter out and replace .

There are a couple possibilities: If the starter has been replaced and the problem has just begun, check the wiring. It could be that you have crossed the wires to the starter. If THAT'S not the case, verify that the keyswitch is releasing the starter after you let go. and last, make sure there are no damaged or crossed wires between the keyswitch and the starter.

probably the starter at least that is where I would start at anyway. I had the same problem but after so long the car would crank and I was told the starter but have not had problem again.

What do you mean when you say it doesn't engage? Is the starter spinning but just doesn't catch to spin the engine? IF that's the case it could be as simple as a loose starter or as bad as a damaged flex plate/flywheel. But it would most likely be the starter.

I have had the same problem with my teg. my mate has had the same problem with his prelude. I think it may be computer related. I have found that by turning the key very slowly just before it clicks seems to solve it. I don't undeestand why, but this works for me.
