It was written in what is now called "Declaration House." Thomas Jefferson rented a second floor space in the house of a bricklayer named Graff at 7th and Market Streets near the outskirts of Philadelphia, because he couldn't work in all the noise in the main part of town. The actual house was demolished in 1883 but was restored based on old photographs by the National Park Service. After it was completed and changed slightly by Ben Franklin and John Adams, it was presented to Congress in Independence Hall (then called the Pennsylvania State House).

Both took place in Philadelphia, PA.

The Declaration of Independence was approved on July 4, 1776. The first printed copy was signed on at least two occasions about a month later.

The Constitutional Convention was held from May 25 to September 17, 1787 at Independence Hall, and the approved document was signed on September 17, 1787. (ratified in 1788)
