Best Answer

Parsnips are commonly grown in Europe and in many northern aresa of the United States, but are not a popular garden vegetable in the South. However, this ancient vegetable is thought to have originated around the eastern Mediterranean. Parsnips are a member of the parsley family, cultivated for its large, tapering, white root, which is edible and has a distinctive flavour. This root vegetable is related to the carrot.

Parsnips are a minor crop which is not tracked by the FAO.

It is grown mostly in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the USA, because of its British and Irish immigrants.

Parsnip was the starchy vegetable of choice before the potato replaced it.

It is still grown a bit in Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Russia, but there's really no compiled data about it.

Although parsnips taste better after a bit of frost, they apparently come from the Mediterranean area, from where the Romans brought it to the rest of the world.

Outside of the countries mentioned, parsnips are probably grown in gardens much more than being commercially present in supermarkets.
