It is a Spanish island, largest of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic. Xo, Smartiiz. Tenerife, a Spanish island, is the largest of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. The island's population is 852,945 (2006 census). If the name Tenerife has a familiar ring, it may be because it is the site of the largest plane crash in aviation history as regards loss of life (not counting fatalities on the ground). Two 747 jumbo jets were involved in a collision, and one was completely destroyed with the loss of all aboard. A link is provided.
