On the 1988 Pulsar NX SE, when you're standing in front of the car, looking into the engine compartment, it's on the left side (the passenger side) near the top of the engine, towards the back. Just follow the big hose from the top of the radiator to where it connects to the engine. It looks like it's held on with 3 bolts that are probably able to be removed using a normal socket set without removing anything major around it. I'm going to replace mine tomorrow...

" The Pulsar starter is located centrally, underneath the engine close to the passenger compartment." According to my car, the E16i engine, it is on the drivers side of the engine below/behind the distributor.

On the Nissan NX Coupe the starter is located to the right of the transaxle and to the left of the air cleaner. The air filter will need to be removed as well as the battery to access the starter motor.
It is in the exhaust pipe right after the exhaust manifold.
First, if you haven't warped the head, try replacing the Thermostat and all the antifreeze to something new in this millineum. Second, make sure your radiator isn't leaking along with all of your collant hoses. If that doesn't take care of it, you should take it to a mechanic to get a checkup.
