TDC is 0( sometimes just a large line). A 4 cycle engine hits TDC or '0' once every 2 revolutions; So as the engine revolves, ( one revolution )it is at bottom dead center (BDC) then comes around to TDC to start the process over again. I hope this helps you. Mark
Answerthe "0" mark on the timing tab coincides with cylinder #1,the cylinder that is farthest torward the front of the engine. On a Chevy 350 this is on the drivers side.To varify if it is at top dead center or bottom dead center you need to remove #1 spark plug and determine weather the piston is at the top or bottom of the cylinder. One way to do this is to hold your finger over the open spark plug hole while someone turns the engine over slowly and feel for the blast of air to come out as the piston reaches tdc.If you have a distributor you can also determine where #1 plug wire needs to be by removing the distributor cap to see where the contact point of the rotor is pointing when at top dead center.this is #1 in the firing order.(18436572). AmswerLooking at my 350, the number 1 cylinder is on the passenger side front. The original Chevy intake manifold has the firing order cast in front of the carb, and the cylinder numbers cast into the top of the intake channel next to the head.10 degrees tdc
red mark is TDC. 15 degrees BTDC where you want to be is 3 marks after TDC.
Hargun, if your reading this, you suck.
No. When the timing mark is at tdc, #'s 1 & 6 are both up. One is up for compression, the other is up for exhaust.
the middle mark its white first is yellow second is white tdc and third is un colored your car will not start on the unclored mark make sure your timing mark is white so your top dead center (tdc)
you just do what mark on the crank is TDC
Engine 4.3L (262 cid)Base Timing 0~ TDC (Manual Trans).Engine 4.3L (262 cid)Base Timing 0~ TDC (Auto Trans).
TDC mark on the rocker cover
All timing marks are based on the #1 cylinder
Mark the TDC line on the harmonic balancer with whiteout or white chalk. Hook up the timing light to the #1 cylinder spark plug wire (closest to radiator on drivers side). Start engine and spin distributor until the mark moves to 8 degrees before TDC. This is the factory timing.
The crankshaft pulley should have only one timing mark, and that is the one for TDC There are 5 markings. Looking from the front of the motor the marks start at right 15btdc, 10btdc, 5btdc, TDC, 5atdc. Top dead center will be the second marking from left then.
the only way to determine where tdc is to do the timing is to put a dial indicator on top of number 1 piston, can be done with the head on depending on what engine it is
