Inside most sanitary napkins is some sort of cotton or clothlike layer, an absorbant that turns into gel when it absorbs liquids and other paper like materials mixed together to form that middle layer, that have been bleached, disinfefted with various chemicals and disinfectants, sometimes there are odorized agents that help mask the odor, and a plastic bottom layer that does not permit any leaks, and the chemical glue that stays on our panties. Sounds good enough, except all of the above cause most women to have rashes, infections, viruses and other gynocological problems. Simply because they are not made of natural materials and provide an amazing environment for all sorts of bacteria and viruses! There is a solution however!!! Sanitary napkins "Love Moon" are made of 100% cotton, food grade material, even the glue on the bottom is made of the same stuff that is used in Chewing Gum. They are breathable which provides vetilation, eliminating that hot and web feeling. They are 100 times better absorbant comparing to all other brands we have on the market! There are no chemicals, chlorine, or recycled or remanufactured materials. And best of all each pad contains an Anion Strip - brand new negative ion technology. Negative ions kill 99% of bacteria and viruses that may grow on the pad, eliminating odor, cramps, and any allergic reaction. Different brands and types of sanitary napkins are composed of different materials but most have a core of cellulose wadding, a cotton or fleece cover and many have siliconised paper to improve absorbency.

We don't really know.

Tampon and pad manufacturers are largely self-regulated and don't inform customers of what ingredients they use in their products, even the FDA are largely clueless about what is used, so commercial pads like Always or Kotex could contain anything.

Some chemicals we know that are present in these types of pads include plasticizing chemicals (BPA and BPS), pesticides, bleach, dioxin, petrochemical additives, phthalates, fragrance, formaldehyde releasing preservatives like imidazolidinyl urea, etc.

If using menstrual pads it's best to opt for either organic cotton pads such as Cottons or Natracare which are free from any harmful chemicals, or cloth pads such as Lunapads or gladrags which contain no chemicals and are just as safe as your clothing.
