The American Civil War was decided by the state of South Carolina. None of the Southern States were happy about Abraham Lincoln becoming President of the United States of America. The people feared that Lincoln would put an end to slavery, and change the lives that the people were accustomed to.
After the election of Lincoln, South Carolina seceded from the Union. On April 12, 1861, Confederate troops, under the command of General Pierre G.T. Beauregard, attacked the United States Army Post of Fort Sumter, that was located at the Charleston Harbor. The Union defenders surrendered to the rebels, and the Civil War was on.
