China has "Anti-Secession Law", which states that mainland China and Taiwan belong to one China and that there is only one China and that the sovereignty of that one China is indivisible. What's more, many countries and the U.N. recognize that Taiwan is part of China and there is one China in the World. For the above reasons, Taiwan is a part of China. The people on Taiwan don't fully agree with that viewpoint and it is still a source of political friction.
