Gandhi also read the works of Henry David Thoreau on civil disobedience. His religious readings and citations also included the Koran and Bible for influence into his positions of tolerance and universal identity. Lastly, the selfless generosity and service of his Jewish partners, Sonya Shlessin and Herman Kallenbach, were to become invaluable influencers and benefactors to his early foundation in South Africa.
