Roy Crooks (Fort Worth resident) earned his living by being a manufacture representative for 10 years covering the whole state of Texas. Products such as: Envelopes for printing companies and the State of Texas, Black n Decker power tools, True Temper lawn tools, Smith & Weston fire arms, box car loads of Corning Ware, General Electric small appliances, Shakespeare fishing equipment, Toastmaster appliances, and hundreds more.
However, Roy had always wanted to act but just like a lot of us we just hope, but never steer our life towards that direction.
One day, Roy was called by local college to measure and bid on a carpet installation ( Roy had been in the commercial floor covering market for over 15 years). When Roy was measuring the areas, the local theater was rehearsing a play. Roy talked to the actors and ask just how does one get to act in a play. The answer given was just come to the open audition.
To speed things up, Roy got a small part and the part was crucial to the play because it required a great character. Roy changed his voice, stance, and body movements, and became totally a new person. He was great in the play. Patrons greeted him and asked if his voice was always like this (voice in the play) they actually thought Roy talked like this in real life.
Well, one play after another, he has played the heavy characters. He has received standing ovations at the curtain call.
There's more to Roy Crooks, but then again you would never really know if he is real or in one of his characters. In one of the plays he was an Italian grand dad, his accent was so perfect, patrons wanted to know were they (local theatre) found an Italian man to do the play. While in the play "To Kill a Mocking Bird", Roy's performance was so great that the local mayor said he was his favorite actor..
Now in retirement (since 2005), he has five grand-kids living with him and his wife (Jody - married Feb 1972). Taking breaks eating out three times a week with Jody and fishing with granddaughter London at 630 acre ranch land.
Roy owned a driving safety school for over 14 years, he used different voices and characters in the courses.
In addition to all of the above activities, Roy maintain an insurance agency,
He has had offices in Fort Worth, Texarkana, and Austin. Providing protection for mortgages and final expenses for over 45 years.
