Honor previous treaties (Apex)
The cherokee (along with other tribes) were relocated from southeastern US to the Indian Territory (present day Oklahoma) in which they have to travel long distance. Their homes were burned and their properties were destroyed. Farms were given to settler through Georgia Land Lottery. They were however promised 5 million dollar for the land. During the relocation, many Indians were exposed to disease, starvation and cold where 4000 out of 15000 Cherokee died. Some were killed along the way. There are some tribes like Oconaluftee, Cherokee from Nnantahala area and the ones who married with white who were allowed to stay.
The Indian Removal Act was signed into law by President Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830.[1][2]President Andrew Jackson called for an Indian Removal Act in his 1829 speech on the issue. The Removal Act was strongly supported in the South, where states were eager to gain access to lands inhabited by the Five Civilized Tribes. In particular, Georgia, the largest state at that time, was involved in a contentious jurisdictional dispute with the Cherokee nation. President Jackson hoped removal would resolve the Georgia crisis. The Indian Removal Act was also very controversial. While Native American removal was, in theory, supposed to be voluntary, in practice great pressure was put on Native American leaders to sign removal treaties.
That depends on who you ask. Relationships between Native American's and White Settlers ranged from friends to outright ritualistic slaughter. Up to 1830 or 1832 most Cherokee emulated and got along with whites; after that violation more began to call white men (and their culture for what it is) - this was further exacerbated by the next violation of treaties known as the Oklahoma Land Rush (taking away the last of our lands) in 1889. As a general statement, most Native Americans hold hostilities to any white man today (either directly, or for allowing their government to 'do this' and not do something about it - this concept involves cultural differences between whites and natives; we have a habit of killing our leaders when they violate their word (leadership responsibility), where whites expect it to happen and only question how bad it will be).
