He became popular in Germany for condemning the Versailles Treaty, which excessively punished Germany for the damages caused by World War I. He wanted, just like most Germans, to punish the authors of the Versailles Treaty and grew to political power because of this. He represented a clear and common goal to replace the current government, which was in disarray with massive inflation.

This depends on what you thought he did that was evil.

1. Putting the Jews, gypsies, and other people that were thought to corrupt German society in concentration camps- He did this because he wasn't able to deport them anymore, he first starting deporting Jews to Palestine, but maybe he just didn't care because Heinrich Himmler was mostly in charge of this and Hitler had other concerns, I am not sure.

2. The invasion of Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Poland- This is debatable, Germany wanted back land lost after World War 2 so he occupied German speaking countries, but as for Poland I have heard the Polish were killing German farmers and I have also heard it was because Hitler was mad they didn't give Germany some land when Hitler asked for it or it was because Hitler thought the country was full of communist Jews that needed to be cleaned up.

Hitler started to implement his foreign policy in a broader range as soon as he started to gain the majority support which was moving into the latter part of the 1920's. Such "evil" aspects of his policy where the persecution of the wider minorities of Europe and the annexing of the vassal states of Russia such as the Rhineland. Once he came to power man, power corrupts the most!
