The soldiers were part of UN effort to make sure that emergency food supplies were reaching Somali civilians. However, Somali warlords hijacked the food shipments after they were distributed. The American's tried to stop this through military intervention, and this led to the incident commonly known as "Blackhawk Down". Clinton shortly thereafter removed the troops from Somalia.

∙ 7y agoBecause it had become clear that the Bosnian Serbs were guilty of an ongoing series of war crimes, such as mass murders of unarmed Bosnian Muslims, the setting up of concentration camps and the continuous bombing of cities. . It also had become clear that the UN forces present there were incapable of reigning in the Serbs or bring about peace.
