Ho Chi Minh and his North Vietnamese Government was backed by the Soviet Union and Red (Communist) China. Armed with war material from those two countries, Ho Chi Minh led his country in a war to take the Free Republic of South Vietnam by force of arms. The US helped South Vietnam RESIST that attack.
