Colonists disliked the Townshend acts because of the colonist's distinction between internal and external taxes. It was believed that duties were external as none of the products, except for tea, were made in the colonies. This led to colonial boycott against British products.

The colonists disliked the Townshend act because the British taxed everything ( sugar, tea, paper, paint, lead, glass etc.). The colonists oposed paying taxes to Great Britain because they were not represented in the Parliament of Great Britain.
